Want to Make Money Online? Then Stop Reading and Get Moving!

This guest post is by Danny Iny of Firepole Marketing.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post here at problogger.net about how Firepole Marketing makes money.

I explained that even though we’re less than a year old, we’ve already made over $20,000, and that over half of that came from offline sources.

We wanted to know how other bloggers make their money. Is it all online, or do they make their money offline as well?

In other words, we wanted to know if they were Semi-Local.

In October 2011, we surveyed 153 people; 107 who were already Semi-Local, and 46 who aspired to be. We asked a number of questions to find out what was really involved in becoming and being Semi-Local. Here are the highlights of what we learned.

The first major finding was about how many hours per week people who were already Semi-Local (current SLs) spent working, versus how many hours per week people who aspired to be Semi-Local (aspiring SLs) spent working:

Notice the discrepancies on either end of the spectrum: 31% of aspiring SLs work less than 20 hours per week, versus only 12% of current SLs. On the other hand, only 15% of aspiring SLs work 50+ hours per week, versus 28% of current SLs.

Do you think people are idealizing the Semi-Local life, and expecting it to be a lot easier than it really is?

Another interesting finding was about take-home income:

There’s definitely more money in being Semi-Local: 39% of current SLs make over $60K/year, versus only 22% of aspiring SLs. The majority (60%) of aspiring SLs make between $20K and $60K/year, whereas the majority (60%) of current SLs make between $40K and $200K/year—a big difference!

There’s some interesting data at the edges of the spectrum, though. 25% of current SLs make under $20K/year, versus only 18% of aspiring SLs, and only 2% of current SLs make over $200K/year, versus 4% of aspiring SLs.

One of the most interesting findings (to me, at least) was about how people actually go about becoming Semi-Local:

The majority (71%) of aspiring SLs expect to achieve Semi-Local status by creating an offer that is substantially different from their current offer. In contrast, the majority (60%) of current SLs did it by selling exactly the same offer to a new market.

The lesson here is pretty clear—put away all of the shiny objects, and look for new customers to buy what you’ve already got!

This is one of the top questions for anyone who’s thinking about becoming Semi-Local: how long does it take to launch?

There are really two “categories” of results here: the first category is “under 100 hours,” and the second category is “100+ hours.” Seeing the results in these two categories, we can draw a couple of interesting conclusions:

Current SLs have a stronger preference for smaller projects as a means of getting going (76% of current SLs, versus 70% of aspiring SLs).Current SLs took a lot less time to launch than aspiring SLs expect it will take (46% launched in under 40 hours, versus 34% who believe they can do it in such a short time).

That’s the question that we should all be asking before opening up our wallets for the latest training program on blogging and online business:

This is the most striking finding: 63% of current SLs said “no,” versus only 43% of aspiring SLs. The message here is very clear: you don’t need training, you just need to get off your butt and start working!

Do you want to see more of the numbers? Review more of the answers that the respondents gave us? Then download the full report—it’s free!

Avoid These Two Mistakes in Online Marketing

It doesn’t matter if you consider yourself a blogger, a product creator or an affiliate marketer. If you’re online trying to earn a living, you are ultimately an online marketer. These two mistakes in online marketing can ruin you and your business.

Mistake One:

Trying to be someone you’re not. I know, you see other successful people and you think if you imitate them you’ll be successful too. However, this is not a good idea. It’s fine to imitate strategies that others are using, but you still need to be yourself. Let your own personality shine through. If you enjoy humor, use humor. You don’t have to be a stuffy marketer. People will like you for who you are and for being who you are.

People hate someone who is fake. If you’re trying to fake your way into their trust, they will know it and stop following you. Attract your own market, people who like you for you. Don’t try to attract a marketing pretending to be something or someone you’re not.

Trying to be someone you’re not will only run you down. You’ll get tired of trying to keep up a facade or fake persona. This will lead to you not caring or having passion for your niche or your followers. If you’re already trying to be like someone else, stop it. Start being you. You may lose some readers in the beginning, but you’ll gain a whole lot more in the long run by being a real person.

Mistake Two:

Losing focus. I know, this one is easier said than done. There’s so much information to get in the way and so many shiny objects to chase, but that is not how you build a business. you have to stay focused and stay true to yourself, your values and your readers.

The grass may look greener in another niche, but this is rarely ever the case. Successful marketers love their niche and work very hard at them. If you’re not passionate about your niche, then yes, you should find one that you are passionate about, but don’t change mid-stream just because you think something else will be more successful.

Successful people stick with their ideas and follow through to completion. They don’t give up when they run across an obstacle, they find solutions.
It’s extremely hard to stay focused on one market sometimes, but if you can avoid doing too many things at one time or taking on too many projects, you’ll find it easier to focus on your target audience and your target niche.
Always start small, work hard and gain success in one area before you start adding on other things. You’ll be glad you did–even if it gets a little boring along the way, it will help you avoid mistakes in online marketing.

Open your online store with Wazala Shopping Cart solution

Setting up your own ecommerce store on the Internet do not need to be a difficult process. In fact, does not even need any special knowledge of encoding your assignment need not a coder to get your site and the service.

All you have to do is sign up for the service offered by Wazalah. This is a solution for full-featured e-commerce, providing your store with an easy to use interface and a lot of powerful options, all without ever touching a single line of code. It also comes with some Nice extras that distinguish it from other similar apparently e-commerce solutions.

It that having a proper car on the online store was a complex and confusing. This is no longer valid. In fact, it can be fully functional in under fifteen minutes, with Wazala.

The great thing is that Wazala is largely platform agnostic. If you already have a company website, set to run on WordPress, Wazala can work with it. If you have coded by another CMS, that works too. This is because one of the characteristics of Wazala is that this is not loaded as a separate page.

Instead, the e-commerce store appears as the lightbox above the content of the site dimmed. In this way, customers are leaving your site and a third-party shopping cart. You can run Wazala on your own domain, maintaining the net branding intact. Alternatively, you can also have your page yourname.wazala.comstore.

What do you want to sell online? You may have a local store brick-and-mortar for handicrafts, but want to expand your business on the Web? Perhaps you sell digital products like eBooks and mini-games. Wazala is designed to work with both physical and digital products.

Shown above is the location of demonstration version of the engine Wazala in the workplace. You can also see other specimens to get a better sense of what is possible. In the case of digital products, Wazala will handle the delivery of digital products for you, including the ability to limit the number of times a customer can re-download the content as well as when the item expires.

Of course, shippable products will be met by you, but it is good to know that Wazala was forming with this feature too.

Because of the location platform-agnostic, the shopping cart Wazala online solution can work in any number of platforms, including Blogger, Posterous, Tumblr, SquareSpace, Google sites, and TypePad, Facebook and a Facebook app.

In any case, the experience is largely the same. As mentioned earlier, a lightbox with the e-shop. What do you want to sell online, you can categorize your product list, product thumbnails appear and offers full descriptions. You'll notice the inclusion of social media to share links, plus the usual "add to cart" and "checkout" buttons that you can find all e-stores.

There is also a portable version called Wazala Touch, ensuring that your customers can even shop for (and buy) your products from the comfort of their mobile devices. The experience is meant to be "app-like" touch gestures and automatic detection.

The small plan ($ 9.95/month or $ 99.50/year) allows up to 25 products, but this does not handle digital downloads. Intensify the medium-term plan ($ 19.95/month or $ 199.50/year), to receive up to 100 products support digital music downloads and sales previews. The grand design ($ 29.95/month or $ 299.50/year) overlaps the list to 250 products, adding custom labels, custom store e-mail messages, Google Analytics and monitoring support.

The three designs available for Wazala include a free trial; 15 days, which gives you the ability to use the Wazala solution without obligation to continue your subscription.

This guest post is by Leo Widrich of Buffer.

After Google+ entered the social networking scene not so long ago, the number of online distractions hasn’t really decreased.

At the same time, innovations and smarter solutions to handle your actions online have fortunately continued to thrive too. Instead of the usual to-do lists, news readers, or sharing tools, they tackle things in new and more helpful ways.

What’s most important for me, is that they slot right into my workflow, and allow me to become more efficient without changing my behavior. A few apps recently managed to do so brilliantly.

Here are my favorite new tools to help you stay focused and use the Web more innovatively.

Do you ever have that feeling of random thoughts and ideas floating around in your head, but there is no optimal solution to jot them down? With SimpleNote, I found a fantastic way to finally write down things in a very intuitive manner. The Chrome extension lets me write things down fast and easily. On top of this, it stores it very intelligently in folders, simply by adding tags.

Workflow tip: The app integrates with a lot of already existing apps to make note-taking inside them even easier.

If you think the likes of Dropbox or Box are making filesharing easy already, you might be surprised as what Let’s Crate can do. Without any signup or signin process, you can start adding your files right on the landing page. The service automatically generates a link that you can share, embed in blogpost, or send via email. It truly simplifies my online life.

Workflow tip: If you do decide to get an account with the app, you can easily turn it into your online storage system, add folders, and use it as a backup.

This is one of the smartest inventions I’ve seen recently. The app is actually a to-do list that automatically turns into a calendar based on the entries you make. It uses super-simple syntax to understand the time and creates a calendar as you type a new to-do item. So, say for example, you write “Tomorrow, 5pm, blogpost due for Mrs. White” and the app automatically detects it and creates an entry in your calendar as well as a to-do item.

Workflow tip: The best part here is that you can set up a bot inside Google Talk, which will remind you right inside Gmail whenever a task is due.

As a full time blogger, my skills in design and programming are very limited. Yet, being able to express myself clearly is more vital than ever. A better blog layout is a crucial component of blogging success these days. With Mockflow, you can create powerful wireframes that facilitate working with designers and programmers a great deal. There exist a wide range of tools and templates to make them look pretty, and are easy to implement.

Workflow tip: What I like best is that the app also works offline, so if you are wireframing on the go, you never have to worry about connectivity.

As a blogger, my main focus is to produce the best content I can write each day. Of course, keeping up with the great posts my favorite blogs write is vital here. Yet knowing what the really good bits are is sometimes tricky. Help comes from StrawberryJ.am. The app orders all the Tweets from your stream on the basis of most mentioned and retweeted. So at one glance, you will see the hot and most-discussed news items in your timeline.

Workflow tip: If you really don’t want to open another site each day, simply subscribe to your own top news and the app will deliver updates straight to your inbox.

This is a piece of innovation I would never have thought could be useful. Yet Do It Tomorrow slots perfectly into my workflow. I am usually the kind of person that puts way to many to-do’s on the list for one day. With this neat Android app, I create a simple to-do list of the things I need to get done and never worry about putting too much on my plate.

Workflow tip: By simply tapping on the little arrow, a to-do gets pushed onto the next day. You’ll never lose to-do’s you didn’t get to.

You will most likely know that the benefits of writing are plentiful. One of the most important factors for me is to order my thoughts. Oh Life takes a very new approach to making it easy for you to write down your thoughts about life. Every evening, the app will send you an email asking “How did your day go?” By hitting Reply, your entries will be safely stored as an online journal.

Workflow tip: Going through my personal Oh Life stories every once in a while helps me a great deal to focus and recap what I am working on.

I found that one of the most important things when speaking to someone via email is to really understand what the person is all about. Rapportive is a Chrome extension that slots right into Gmail and gives you a new tab of information all related to the person you are speaking to. This includes recent tweets, information from Facebook, LinkedIn data, and much more. You can build a rapport with them immediately and fully understand what they are all about.

Workflow tip: Very recently, the app has added a functionality to allow you to reply to tweets right from inside Gmail. This facilitates interaction a lot, I’ve found.

Rapportive Rapportive

This is my extra tool for you, as, different from all the others, it focuses on your physical shape. For a healthy online workflow, the Latin saying of “Mens sana, in corpore sano” (healthy mind, healthy body) is something I follow very closely. The app allows you to enter into online challenges with others, keep track of your weight, and have fun staying in shape with others. You can create teams, challenge each other, or use it strictly for personal use to keep track of your exercise.

Workflow tip: I particularly like the Social Network behavior of Skinnyo. It makes it easy to see how others are doing and keeps me motivated.

These are my favorite tools to make the most of my day online. How about you? Do you think some of them could be useful for you too? Are there others you can add?

My "methods" for building a successful Online Business

Today I received an email from someone asks what my "methods" are for building an online business. That is always a difficult question — especially since I have a feeling that it was asked by someone looking for a easy and quick reply.

Here is my answer. I'd love to hear what would you have added or said.

Thanks for the email.

It's hard to sum it all in an email (I published about 6,000 posts on ProBlogger on the topic and also written a book), but really, if I summarize what I had to do, it would be:

Blog about topics you know about and enjoy (I blog about the topics I had blog about for free).Try to blog something interesting and useful for others every day, for a very long time (I've been doing it for nine years). In touch with other bloggers and other places where people go around the topics that you write on (such as social media, forums, etc.). Put yourself "out there" on a daily basis find new readers for your blog.Build community around your blogs. Reader questions, stimulate discussions, make your readers feel engaged and involved. Love them to death!Experiment with different ways to make money from your blog (and because). There is no way to do this-it could be through a combination of methods, including selling formats do affiliate promotions, advertising, writing sponsored posts, creating and selling your own products, etc.None of these is easily or quickly. It takes time and daily work in the long run. There is no blueprint for guaranteed success in this space. In the end it is about continued useful to people and building a relationship with them. A byproduct of that is that they will keep coming back, bring their friends and to respond to your calls to action.

Thanks for your email address — in something I hope this helps.

Online success should not be measured in enemies

This guest post is margieclayman.comby Margie of tenacious D.

One of my favorite Elvis Costello choruses goes like this:

"What's so funny ' bout peace, love and understanding?"

I've always liked that song, but I've never really thought I would live in a time where that question would resonate. I always thought, "well, that was written when peace and love, it seemed hokey, maybe, or maybe even impossible. It was more than a rhetorical question when Elvis first sang it. "

And yet, if I am here in the year 2011 is, I have to ask the same question. What's so funny ' bout peace, love and understanding? Certainly seems as though all three concepts are carried out in a PR crisis in the online world.

I've gotten picked up a bit more than my years in the world of social media. Why? Because I am nice. I'm lovey dovey. People have told me that it's really boring to listen to someone like me, because I never had any ruffle feathers.

To the friendly, I think that is a completely ridiculous feeling.

Sure, you get a strong response from someone if you call someone, to hurl insults, bash, or say that someone is really stupid. There is no doubt that ruffling feathers tends too big for attention and traffic spikes. So what?

If you want to get people to read your blog posts, to entice what about the concept of writing really good content? Really thought-provoking content? What about writing about something people are not much about writing? If, I do not know ... like you're beautiful, perhaps? Why does excitement in the online world, or interest, synonymous with cruelty or malicious intentions? I would rather boring and beautiful than enjoying a bit of success at the expense of others.

This is another expression that I have seen many in the online world about my year the wild Internet navigating waters, and I also think it is utter nonsense. Why are we measure success by how many people hate us? There is no other domain that I can think of in the human world where we measure success in this way.

"Congratulations, Daisy. Everyone in your Department do you hate so we are going to give you now! " That just doesn't happen. So why do we need to pull out the haters instead of a measure when we talk about measuring online success? What is this need to have people attack us everything about?

How can I measure my online success? I look at how many people say that they enjoy my posts. I look at the solid relationships that I've built. It's not exactly a revolutionary concept, people.

My friend Sean McGinnis ran into a post that this claim: that women are not as many can find success in the world because women just not selfish or egotistical enough.

First of all, let me tell you about some of the women I have encountered in my life. If you know about knife stabbing, in-it-for-itself, ruthless, downright cruel women want, I can spiders ya a yarn, sonny jim. That's not a problem.

Second of all, what?!? Are we really say that success is based on how much you want to make people vomit when they see you? I mean, that doesn't sound like a success for me. That sounds kind of like, I don't know ... crazy-sauce?

In addition to the glorification of failure do I find the glorification of rudeness or cruelty the most nauseating thing I have encountered on the Web. You do not have for breaking your button Censor be welcomed. You don't have to get accolades because every other post has an f-bomb. Surely there is more to online success than comparisons with male and female genitals is someone who invites? I mean, really. Can we aim a little higher?

Then again, maybe I'm just a boring nice person.

You tell me what this is all about.

Tactical Tips for building an Online community

This guest post is by Jim Nelson Tripawds.comor.

With all the wonderful feedback on my guest post about how we utilize WordPress multisite and discussion forums to build community for our rather niche market, I thought I might offer some detail about specific tactics and network plugins we use to keep members informed, active and increasing in number.

Here are just a few social media nuts and bolts that keep the Tripawds Blogs community together. These methods work for us, as proven by growing membership and increased traffic to featured blogs and archived content.

My recommendations are by no means the only solutions for generating measurable success, though. Please do comment below with your own recommendations for encouraging social interaction on membership sites.

The freemium model: Make it free, with perks for paid members. Offer free blogs and use a Supporter plugin to enable enhanced features, or set membership levels for accessing premium content.Create featured blogs: Post regularly to a set of sites targeting specific topics. Example: Tripawds followers will find weekly posts in separate blogs for Gear, Gifts, Nutrition, downloads, and Amazon Reviews.Install Recent Global Posts widgets: Display recent posts from all blogs across your network, and bump your featured blog posts to pin them throughout the day.Update topics for featured blogs: Create specific forum topics for each of your sites and reply whenever your blog posts get kicked out of recent posts widgets. Encourage subscribing to topics for notification of new blog posts.Include member and blog directories: Provide searchable directories of all users and blogs. Edit directory pages to include descriptions and avatars or featured blogs and site administrators.Provide global site search: The WordPress admin bar only allows searching of the blog being viewed. Use a plugin that enables searching of all blogs and provide instructions for searching discussion forums and member or blog directories.Create a blog ring: Show network-wide global content in the headers and footers of all blogs across your network. Include links to your forums and directories or featured blogs. Here's how we did it.Create a New default Blog template: Install a plugin that lets you activate a default theme for all new blogs complete with with settings, blogroll links, and text widgets, and use a Supporter plugin that lets you enable premium themes for paid subscribers.Welcome all new bloggers: In addition to customizing the default first "Hello World" comment from your WordPress settings, reply to the first real post published on new blogs. Also create a forum discussion for welcoming new bloggers, and update the topic after first posts get published. Encourage members to subscribe to topic for notification of new blogs.Thank paying members: If you offer paid premium accounts, create a forum topic for announcing all new Supporter blogs.Encourage commenting on blogs: Create global RSS feeds for all blogs and comments to facilitate the following or member activities.Display recent posts in the dashboard: Use the Multi site dashboard Feed Widget to show recent posts from all blogs in every user dashboard.Create a custom menu: Use a theme that supports custom menus and link to specific featured blogs and forums to make network navigation easy.Foster friendships: A Friends plugin can be used to help members connect and show their support or others with widgets on their blogs.Provide technical support: Create a forum dedicated to answering tech support questions, and have a featured blog for posting announcements of new features and how to videos.Use a discreet popup: Direct new visitors from external sites to valuable content or welcome them with encouragment to join using a Popover plugin.Branch out: Offering podcasts of interviews with community members or discussions about pertinent topics with the tools available at Blog Talk Radio. Direct traffic to a dedicated forum or featured blog for all show archives and the upcoming program schedule.Keep it fun: Start an "Anything Goes" forum for allowing members to rant and rave about whatever they wish. And consider creating a fun blog offering some sort of comic relief. Tripawds has the KillBarney blog which follows the travels of our dog Jerry's favorite toy as it visits members and their dogs.Teach members to help: Encouage members to engage in all aspects of the community by showing them how to post in forums or publish a blog. Provide information about RSS feeds and how to use a reader, tell them how to subscribe or watch forum topics, and provide them with links to popular posts that should be shared with all new members.

Most importantly, engage with your community. Maintaining a multisite network for any cause can be time consuming. The more passionate you are about your work the easier it will be. Lack of passion is easily identified by members — especially paying ones — and can result in quick burnout. I have certain boilerplate comments with links to our most frequently recommended content, but I rarely use them and always edit them when I do to avoid appearing disingenuous.

Examples for all of the above tactics in use can be seen at my blog. The BuddyPress plugin is also available for building community among WordPress multisite members, complete with groups, forums and activity streams.

For those like me who have never played around with BuddyPress, however, I hope the tips above help you make the most of your multisite network. The vast majority of plugins I use to accomplish everything I've discussed come from WPMU Dev. If others have suggestions for different plugins or arguments for using BuddyPress, please share them in the comments.

Jim Nelson is co-founder of the Tripawds Blogs community and an active member of the WPMU Dev discussion forums. He and his wife Rene were featured in "Nature, Why We love Cats and Dogs" on PBS with their three-legged dog Jerry.

Most of these blogs around for more than 3 years and is the main way the owner planning to monetize them by creating an authority/expert blog to be able to create useful products that can be sold to the audience of the blog in the future.

More blogs did not start to make money, but the author later decides to monetize what he believes. These kinds of blogs is also the most reliable by humans and search engines often endure the test of time.

The final type of blog, you can begin to help you make more money is a blog.

So your job is to try to promote something people are willing and ready to buy, not the things that most people telling you for years to promote the site as an ebook or participation. You can make money online free on this recession if you can tap into the right market.

I'm about to reveal a strategy that you may or may not know, but something to do for years and has only a thousand years from now. So no longer wait no longer ...Here's how to start living the dream of life.

Money in the city

The first way to bring more income is to roam the city and look for the demands of the Ruff. What I mean about this is to look at companies and see what they sell, and if people are interested in these items. For example here in my town I found a company that sold the garden chairs and swings that hang from trees and many other products "country living".

Now this company has been around for over 70 years and never had a Web site. Asked by owners who are children of the original owners who are much older in age. They said that my own a seo company and would like to create a Web site so I can buy their products for prices good whole sale and resale of the retail price to make money quickly and won from competitions.

I replied that I already got my research for the first two products sale and found that more than 3 k people searching for these items every month. I would like to not only make a site for these products, but also in their online marketplace to help their profits.

Finally I explained them how much money you can make and how quickly we can get to the first page of Google for targeted keywords for disbanded. I replied as soon as I receive orders and then we will contact them and place your order and let us do all the shipping. And so all I need to do is market the site collects the money and my bottom line growing.

The change of income down

Chairs Garden was released with a price for $ 189 but said he had to go to the entire sale price of $ 119 to make a good profit between. Then the outdoor swings retailed for $ 299, I whole sale price $ 209, so you can see a great performance in marketing to me also. So then when this happened and we have signed our contract agreement, have started making the site and in the ranking.

Once the site hit the first page of Google and met the number one spot, after the release and sales began to come. I'm averaging about 23 sales from the Chairmen of the garden and an average of around 34 disposals from the outdoor swings per month. So, your key on average approximately 1,400 k a month with the garden chairs, and approximately 3,000 k plus per month for the custom swing sets.

This is about $ 4,500 per month only by communicating with a small company that manufactures outdoor equipment. What I did was give you an easy way to find good things in promoting that is offline. You did not always employ electronic products to make a buck, you can browse the newspapers and local yellow pages, to see what is available out there that you can make money with.

Here is your may secrete a are not known, the people who will look for physical items will buy easier then someone looking for an e-Book. The reason for this is that these people are ready to spend money now in relation to a person who is looking for an eBook or something you can find free through research.

Try

Today is the day invitation to five companies, and you can see if you are interested in recent leykwmatos with you. If someone does not then move to the next person, sooner or later you will have ten or more specialized sites you work day and night. Now that says I can't make money online free of charge by the recession?
